My mantra is Cleanse. Nourish. EmpowHer.
Cleanse ~ purify your perspective of self- criticizing thoughts
Nourish ~ eat wholesome food cooked with love
EmpowHer ~ reclaim your body (and mind) as sacred space
My name is Vanessa King. I have been practicing yoga for many lifetimes. Yoga showed me that the body remembers even when the mind has already forgotten, and it’s a gateway to transformation. Yoga also taught that food is medicine and to love food that loves me back. I am a licensed nutritionist in community programs and private practice.
I have been a nutrition educator for kids and adults in medical clinics, diabetes management and community outreach programs since 2009. In 2010, while developing training materials for health promoters at the Red Cross Ecuador, I realized that though nutrition touches each of our lives, there is a need for reliable, accessible and affordable resources. I decided to make them available, in combination with my other passion, yoga, to uplift and empower.
I have been a dedicated yoga student since 1998. My studies included over a year in India and Thailand, when I practiced Thai massage, a tradition based in mindfulness and lovingkingness. I am a RYT-500 with numerous yoga certifications, hold a M.S. in Health Promotion, have fulfilled more than 1000 hours as a nutritionist and completed the national exam.
My career has focused on uplifting and empowering individuals to enjoy a nutrient rich life through life-affirming programs. From 2005 -2009 I worked in corporate wellness programs in North America and Asia, developing employee yoga programs to reduce stress and injury risk. My clients included the World Bank, Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency. From 2009 to present I’ve served as an adjunct professor at American University, teaching nutrition, stress reduction and yoga philosophy courses. In my spare time I practice AcroYoga, surfing, try new foods and travel.
